"Make me more like You"

As I lay in bed last night, winding down from the day, I found myself singing this song. “Make me more like You, Jesus, make me more like You. I began to ponder on what this meant. The song says “give me a heart that’s filled with love” but is that all it is to be like Jesus?

My mind turned to the following quote: “Notice the harmony of the Father and the Son. Jesus never did anything until it was first showed Him by the Father. John 5:19.” (CAB Bro Branham)

What am I singing then when I sing “Make me more like you”? I’m asking God, to help me to stay near to Him, to keep in a communion with Him. So that I can keep before me what God wants me to do. That is what Jesus did.
He got away from everything at times to be with the Father so that he could keep this communion fresh. I thought of this scripture last night as well.

MATTHEW 14:22 – 23
22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

Jesus even sent his friends away. Do we ever do that? Do we take time apart from everything, even Godly friendships to be with Jesus? Godly friendships ARE wonderful, but are they more wonderful then fellowship with Jesus?

See, if we are to be “more like Jesus”, we need to be able to ALWAYS have that constant communion with Christ. Jesus made his decisions based upon this communion with the Father. This is why this communion is so very important. It was the source of Jesus’ actions.

So where does that leave me? If communion with the Father was the source of Jesus’ actions, then to be like Him, that same communion must be the source of my actions. How much so then should I value that communion in my life? If Jesus got away to pray, so must I at times get away from everything to sharpen my view of Him.

If I allow the world, Godly friendships, people’s opinions of what I should or should not be doing, or anything get in the way of my communion with Jesus, that is where I’m sure to fail.

Protecting this communion is a number one priority. If we do something the dove doesn’t like, He’ll fly away. Yes, He’ll come back if we pray, but I want to have the kind of communion Jesus had. I want to live my life with a direct link open to God. Always.

Sound Utopian? Too good to be true? The quote I posted above continues…”This harmony is now to exist between the Groom and His bride.” (CAB Bro Branham)

You see? This is what is supposed to be happening in my life, if I am to consider myself as His bride.

My heart truly is crying out “Make me more like You, Jesus”

  1. AMEN – Ive booked this site as a favourite as I was encouraged by the use of the Quotes and Scriptures which pointed me straight to Christ.

  2. I’ve been surprised at some of the google searches that bring up our blog.
I’m not sure about the song… don’t know if I’m familiar with the specific one you’re talking about.
I know the chorus ‘Make Me More Like Thee, but have never tried to search it on YouTube / etc…
